The area was noted in the 1700s for the Soquel Creek, and this same creek offers a pleasant setting for bordering restaurants, featuring local organic cuisine and local wineries. Several of the county’s earliest wineries were started in the hills of Soquel. In an unincorporated Santa Cruz neighborhood but has its own mailing address and includes the zip code 95073. Soquel has a population of close to 10,000 and has an attractive town center located at the intersection of Porter Street and Soquel Drive. Soquel is also well known for its country homes and being a desirable commute location since Soquel San Jose Road connects Highway 17 via Summit Road.
